After the Mac OSX upgrade is finished, Apple Java 6 may no longer exists on your upgraded system. So, it mean that you have already tried IBM's advice and it did not work? I'd appreciate it if someone can decipher it.

Maybe your situation is different from that of jeamoros, I read IBM's notice, your SPSS 21 is not supported on Mavericks or Yosemite.
