If they attack a creature with a higher power level than their creature, their creature will be the one that is destroyed. If they attack a creature with less of a power level than their creature, the opposing creature will be destroyed. Now, any attacking creature has a "power level", which is also like their health. The duelist remaining is the winner of the duel, gaining experience and a booster pack (in story mode)!
This will continue till one hit is landed upon a duelist, after all five of their shields have been "broken". Once you are done this phase (or if you are unable to attack in any way), the opposition will get to go. Spells that are being used will be discarded into your graveyard after they have been used. Note that a creature that was just summoned will have "Summoning Sickness", disabling them for attack during your current turn. If you have any creatures capable of attack in play, the attack phase will be your option of using them against your foe. Note that the creature being called has to be summoned by the same amount of mana as stated on the card AND the mana being used has to contain at least one card the same Civilization as the card being used. At the beginning of each turn, you are given the option of choosing a card (Spell or Creature) to put into your "mana pool", which is what you "tap" (ie use) to call upon a creature or spell held within your hand. 
You will also have five cards in your hand to begin the game.After the play is made, a new card (from the top of your deck) will be drawn before the beginning of the turn for the duelist.
These cards will remain off limits until they are "broken" by an enemy attack, sending the cards into your hand where they become playable.
Five cards at random are taken from your 40 card deck and set up as your five shields. Each portion of a turn in duel is instrumental in your success, requiring great understanding of the effects each move will have on the outcome of the action.
